Alaska - Cruise trip in June, 2008

Alaska

Date: 2008-06-06 to 2008-06-18

My very first cruise trip is Alaska - Diamond Princess. We did this just because of our friend, Mrs. Fan, is having her college graduates reunion. She asked if we like to join them for a group trip. Later, we told some of our friends, they said you have picked the wrong destination for your first cruse trip. The reason they said Alaska is very boring, there is nothing to do. At the time, I was quite regret to pick this place for my very first cruise trip. The final conclusion is that I did the right thing. This is one of the best cruise destinations I have ever been.

Alaska is famous for its natural beauty. We are cruising with Diamond Princess from Vancouver to Whittier. From Whittier we have a chance to visit Anchorage, the largest city of Alaska.

The population of Alaska State is around 600,000 and about half of them are living in Anchorage. There are about 92 languages spoken in Alaska, within them about 28 are native's. The State capital is Juneau with population about 30,000.

Ketchikan is Alaska's first city with mild temperature. We were lucky, it just had rainy morning and the city has more than 260 rainy days in a year. The famous place to visit is a whore house. Everyone all walk toward that direction. There is a fresh water river - salmon hatching stream. The canned salmon is double the price as we can get in Toronto.

Skagway was once an important city in Gold Rush time. Now, the population is only about 800 and tourism is the only major industry. Windy city is the city's nickname. I believe if you can get there in winter, you would enjoy the waind blow through your body.
