South America Trip - Uruguay, Puerto Madryn AR, Cape Horn

Montevideo, Uruguay

2013-01-31

The port is Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. The city center is not too far away from port. I just walk by the map provided by the city. To protect visitors, policemen/policewomen are everywhere on the streets shown on the map route. We have stopped at one McDonald to use their toilet, it is very clean. McDonald's price is higher than Buenos Aires. It is a good way to explore a city, especially, I do not know anything about Uruguay.

Puerto Madryn, Argentina

This is a resort port in southern Argentina. There is a reserved area to see penguins. The tour price is too high, I believe they should learn how Colombia handles tourism - more affordable. This port city is not that big, there are quite many boutique stores, it is a good stop for us to spend the left over Argentine pesos.

Stanley, Falkland Islands

Stanley is the destination. Star Princess is supposed to anchored near the port and use tender to take us to the island. Due to bad weather, sever wind - 160 km/hr. Captain has aborted the call to this port. I believe that is a smart move. We had a chance to see the island - very unclear view. At least, we get closer to this place. The wind was too strong, it could blow me away.

Cape Horn, Chile

This is the southernmost point of mainland. It is only a scenic cruise in the windy and rainy weather. There is one sail boat doing the lonely sailing. The southernmost lighthouse is there. I always like to see lighthouse, it stands in the lonely point to look at the sea.
