St Petersburg-Hermitage Museum

The Hermitage, St Petersburg

Date: 2012-05-18

Hermitage was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and has been open to the public since 1852. With an art collection to rival the Louvre, the Tsar's former Winter Palace and four other buildings is home over three million artworks, including paintings by Da Vinci, Monet, Rembrandt and Renoir. Our tour lady said it is one of the three great museums(British and Louvre) in the world.
The buildings are very luxury in interior decorations - crystal chandlers, wooden floor, high ceiling, gold, etc. We visited in the afternoon, so we could manage to walk through all 4 buildings and finally into French and modern art collections. The Egyptian and Oriental collections are skipped. See Henri Matisse's famous dance and music. Due to direction of photo shooting, most painting photos have reflection. It is like once in a lifetime visit. Memories are on my photos.
I used to post my travel photos on multiply.com, but the site is closed because their interesting has shifted to Asian E-Commerce. The head quarter has moved from Florida to Jakarta, Indonesia. Multiply.com has provided tool to download my pages to Google Blogger only. The photos can only be download one per photo album. Now, I have to re-do all photos and post them again. I believe Google Blogger can live for a longer life.
Hermitage is one of the best museums in the world. My visit is short. The language barrier limits me to visit there by flying to St. Petersburg. Here are the photos captured on my Emerald Princess Excursion visit.
