Panama Canal - Nicaragua and Mexico

Ports: San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
          Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5. San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua

Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country in Caribbean region, just slightly better than Haiti. Tourism is a new industry, Costa Rica is helping them to build tourism industry. The port area is a vacationing resort with many hotels, some of them are not cheap. Along the beach, there are many bars. They give us flyer to promote $1 beer. We went to a bar and ordered $1 beer. They are not honest. Our bill is $1.50 per beer, when we asked why, the answer is tax added. The next table, they only paid $1 per beer. Anyway, it is still cheap. We have passed a local fishing market, it is guaranteed fresh because ship is right there to unload fresh caught. Flea Market in the terminal has local products. The port is not ready for large cruise ship, so tender is used to transfer cruise ship visitors.

 6. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas is one of the premier resort destination in the Western Hemisphere. Swim in the transparent waters, marvel at the wealth of marine life, relax on one of the white-sane beaches or try your hand at some of the finest sport fishing in the world.

We walked in the port area to enjoy Mexican foods and drinks. The port is not for cruise ships, so tender is used to transfer visitors. A local vendor approached us for tours. $10 per person to get on a boat to see the stone hole. The ride is about 45 minutes. It is really worth the trip. Barbara got wet when left the boat to the beach. The boat has glass bottom so I can see tropical fish.

There are markets to sell Mexican goods, the price is not too attractive. I can see Subway restaurant and some convenient stores. A bar restaurant has loud music with many customers dancing on the floor. The atmosphere is cheerful and the sky is blue. It is indeed a good place to visit or relax.
