My NZ Trip - Te Anau

New Zealand - Te Anau, South Island

Date: 2007-05-13 to 2007-05-15

Te Anau is a place we stayed to get to Milford Sound. The place is in the middle of our trip to Milford Sound and Queenstown. Population is about 5000.

We stayed 2 nights in this town. We drove from Invercargill on May 13, when we arrived this town it was close to 5 PM. Milford Sound is far away and there are very limited lodging, so we picked this place to stay for 2 nights.

Te Anau is a very small town, surrounding by mountains. It has a something special and famous - Glowworm Cave. Glowworm makes a trap that likes spider's net, the net is sticky; worm glows to attract insects and insects hit the net and become worm's dinner. We bought 7 PM tour tickets and boarded a ship to the cave site. Photography is not allowed in the cave. It depends on person's own interest, I do not feel it is worth 50 dollars for the trip and virtually I did not see anything.
